From idea to impact

EarthTale was founded by Suzan Boshouwers, the creative mind behind its stories and vision.

Meet the Founder

Suzan is a versatile professional with a background in knowledge sharing. During and after graduating from the University of the Arts, she developed a passion for designing educational materials. She explored how scientific knowledge can be shaped in a way that sparks children’s curiosity and makes them want to discover more. Later, she also completed a degree in Applied Psychology, deepening her understanding of how children learn, observe and make sense of the world around them.

Suzan believes it is important that knowledge and science are accessible to children. To all children. She takes what children can understand from science and turns it into rich, accessible learning materials. Through her work, she wants not only to teach the next generation, but also to spark their curiosity, inspire them and encourage them to ask questions of their own.

Her work has been published in multiple languages around the world.

Global reach

Suzan is a designer, author, and scientific illustrator. Her versatile work is appreciated worldwide and has been translated into more than sixteen languages. Her books are read by children in countries including South Korea, China, the United States, Scandinavia, and the Middle East.

Her education-projects are developed in collaboration with experts, ensuring that the scientific knowledge is accurate and connects with children’s world of experience.

Within the Earthtale project, Suzan creates her own illustrations. She also enjoys working with other illustrators. Their different styles and perspectives bring variety to her projects and help give each book or educational resource its own visual language.

Suzan uses her talent for drawing to bring knowledge about nature to life, so that young readers can discover and understand it too.

As an author and designer, she has worked extensively on biology teaching methods and completed an internship at the drawing studio of the Hortus Botanicus in Leiden. She also took drawing classes in the advanced Scientific Illustration programme in Maastricht, the Netherlands. Driven by her passion for nature and drawing, she further developed her skills in botanical illustration, taking lessons with Anita Walsmit Sachs and Monique Lefferts.

During one of her travels, Suzan was struck by the interconnectedness and beauty of nature.

Especially in the protected areas of Costa Rica, where she returned several times, it became clear to her how everything in nature is connected. The discoveries she made there together with local guides, and the knowledge they shared with her, inspired her to explain how that unity of nature works to children who do not have access to it themselves.

From Wonder to Understanding

EarthTale transforms complex learning goals into visual stories that truly resonate with children.

EarthTale at Work

At EarthTale, a love for nature, education, and imagination is deeply rooted in our DNA. We believe that every child — wherever they are in the world — deserves a sense of wonder. That magical moment when nature reveals something you will never forget …

“Those who understand nature will care for it. Let’s give children around the world a sense of wonder and understanding.”
— Suzan Boshouwers, founder EarthTale
